Etsy Dropshipping in 2026: Rules, Fees, and Etsy to eBay

Etsy dropshipping means one of two very different things. Selling on Etsy while a third party makes and ships the product is allowed only under Etsy's Creativity Standards, which require that you design the item and disclose your production partner, and which ban reselling mass-produced goods. Sourcing handmade items from Etsy sellers and listing them on eBay is the other model, and it is governed by eBay's Dropshipping Policy rather than Etsy's rules. Both can work in 2026, and both get accounts suspended when sellers ignore the fine print.

This guide covers both directions: what Etsy actually allows, what the fees look like, and how sourcing from Etsy to eBay works in practice.

Is dropshipping allowed on Etsy?

Not in the classic sense. Etsy's Creativity Standards (the policy page at etsy.com/legal/creativity) say every item must fit one of four categories: made by a seller, designed by a seller, sourced by a seller (craft supplies and party supplies), or handpicked by a seller (vintage, meaning at least 20 years old). Buying a mass-produced product from AliExpress or a wholesaler and listing it as your own fits none of them, and Etsy's Seller Policy treats it as reselling, which is prohibited.

What is allowed is the "designed by a seller" route. You create the design, a production partner prints and ships it, and you disclose that partner. Etsy's Help Center article on working with production partners says you must add each partner in Shop Manager and select it on every listing they help produce. Since 2024 Etsy has also required disclosure of AI-generated content, and the July 2026 Seller Policy refresh added clearer wording plus a broader appeals process for listing removals rather than new rules.

The practical line:

  • Allowed - Print on demand through Printful, Printify, Gelato, or a similar partner where you made the artwork. Custom or personalized items produced by a disclosed partner from your design. Craft supplies and party supplies that you source for other makers.
  • Not allowed - Listing an unbranded AliExpress necklace as "handmade." White-label goods from a manufacturer or wholesaler with no design input from you. Copying someone else's design and sending it to a POD partner.
  • Grey and risky - "Designed by you" with minimal creative input, such as a stock template with one word swapped. Etsy's 2026 enforcement explicitly weighs the level of original creative input, so thin designs get removed.

Etsy's stated consequences for reselling or undisclosed production partners run from listing removal to shop suspension, and Etsy does not owe you a warning first.

What does Etsy charge dropshippers and POD sellers?

Fees decide whether Etsy dropshipping is worth it, because print on demand base costs are already high. These are Etsy's US fees as of September 2026. Check etsy.com/legal/fees before you rely on them, because Etsy has changed processing rates by country several times.

FeeAmountNotes
Listing fee$0.20 per listingRenews every four months or after each sale
Transaction fee6.5% of item price plus shippingCharged on shipping and gift wrap too
Payment processing (US)3% + $0.25UK is 4% + 0.20 GBP
Offsite Ads15% (12% if your shop made $10,000+ in the last 365 days)Optional under $10,000, mandatory above it; charged only on sales from an ad click within 30 days
Regulatory operating fee0% in the USApplies in some countries, for example Canada and parts of Europe
Currency conversion2.5%Only when the listing currency differs from your payout currency
Shop setup fee$15 to $29 one timeIntroduced for new shops in 2024
Etsy Plus$10 per monthOptional, includes listing and ad credits

Worked example on a POD t-shirt. You sell at $28 with $5 shipping charged to the buyer. Etsy takes $0.20 listing, 6.5% of $33 ($2.15), and 3% + $0.25 processing ($1.24), so about $3.59. Your Printful base cost with shipping is roughly $18 to $20. That leaves $9 to $11 before ads. If the sale came through an Offsite Ad at 15% ($4.95), you are down to about $5. This is why POD sellers on Etsy price at $30 and up and lean on bundles.

How does dropshipping from Etsy to eBay work?

The reverse model uses Etsy as a supplier. You find a handmade or vintage item on Etsy, list it on eBay with a markup, and when it sells you buy it from the Etsy seller with the eBay buyer's address. The appeal is real: unique products with almost no direct competition, higher average order values than AliExpress goods, and buyers on eBay who never think to search Etsy.

It is also the model with the most moving parts.

  • eBay's Dropshipping Policy - eBay allows fulfilling from a wholesale supplier and states that "purchasing the item from another retailer or marketplace that ships directly to your customer is not allowed." An Etsy seller is a marketplace seller, so this sits in the same grey zone as Amazon or Walmart arbitrage. Enforcement is inconsistent, but the listed consequences are listing removal, warnings, restrictions, and suspension.
  • Processing time - Etsy sellers set their own processing time, commonly 1 to 5 business days, and made-to-order items can run 1 to 3 weeks. Etsy's Seller Policy obliges them to ship within their stated window (or 30 days if none is stated). Your eBay handling time has to cover processing plus shipping, not just shipping.
  • Seller messaging - Many Etsy items need a personalization note, size, or color confirmation. That means a conversation with the Etsy seller for every order, which does not scale past a few dozen listings.
  • Intellectual property - Handmade designs are still someone's design. Copying the Etsy seller's photos and text into an eBay listing without permission invites a VeRO complaint from the maker, and Etsy sellers do file them. Some Etsy shops also state in their policies that they do not sell to resellers.
  • Buyer expectations - eBay buyers expect tracking within a few days. A made-to-order item with a 10-day processing time reads as a late shipment unless your listing says so clearly.

The Etsy to eBay dropshipping guide walks through the listing steps in detail. SuperDS supports Etsy as a source through its Etsy to eBay lister, which imports the item, images, and variations into an eBay listing and tracks the Etsy listing for price and availability changes.

If you have design skill or a niche audience, POD on Etsy is the more durable business. If you are already an eBay seller looking for products nobody else lists, Etsy sourcing is a supplement, not a foundation. The print on demand vs dropshipping comparison goes deeper on the POD economics.

What goes wrong with Etsy dropshipping?

Both models fail in predictable ways.

  • Etsy shop suspension - The most common trigger is reselling mass-produced goods tagged as handmade, followed by an undisclosed production partner and design copying. Etsy's enforcement moved from mostly reactive (buyer reports) to proactive in 2025 and 2026, with listings pulled for low creative input. Suspended shops lose pending payouts for weeks while the review runs.
  • Etsy IP takedowns - Uploading a design that uses a licensed character, brand font, or sports team name gets removed under Etsy's Intellectual Property Policy. Three removals in a short window commonly leads to a shop suspension.
  • Offsite Ads surprise - Once your shop crosses $10,000 in trailing 12-month sales, the 12 percent Offsite Ads fee becomes mandatory on ad-driven sales and you cannot opt out. Sellers who priced at 20 percent margin discover they are at 8.
  • eBay late shipment and Item Not Received defects - An Etsy maker who runs three days late on a personalized order pushes your eBay handling metric over. Above 3 percent late shipment removes Top Rated status, and the Seller Performance Standards evaluation on the 20th of each month does not care that it was the maker's fault.
  • VeRO against you - The Etsy seller whose photos you copied can file a Verified Rights Owner report. eBay removes the listing, adds a strike, and repeated strikes restrict the account.
  • Price and availability drift - Etsy sellers raise prices, add processing days, or go on vacation mode without notice. If you listed once and never re-checked, you sell something you cannot buy at the price you assumed.
  • Sales tax and 1099-K - Both Etsy and eBay report your gross sales to the IRS on Form 1099-K once you cross the federal threshold, and both collect sales tax on buyers' behalf in the US. Running both accounts means two 1099-Ks and a bookkeeping job.

How to do Etsy dropshipping safely in 2026

If you are selling on Etsy with a production partner:

  • Add every POD partner in Shop Manager under Production Partners and select it on each listing. Describe their role honestly ("prints and ships my designs").
  • Make original designs. Keep source files and dates so you can prove authorship if a listing is challenged.
  • Disclose AI assistance in the listing where Etsy asks for it.
  • Price at base cost plus 60 percent minimum so the mandatory 12 percent Offsite Ads fee does not wipe the margin.
  • Set processing time to the partner's real production window plus one day.

If you are sourcing from Etsy to eBay:

  • Pick ready-to-ship items with a processing time of 1 to 3 business days and 4.8+ shop ratings. Skip made-to-order for your first 50 listings.
  • Message the Etsy seller before listing, ask whether they accept reseller orders, and use your own photos or get written permission for theirs.
  • Set eBay handling time to processing time plus two days, and put "ships within X business days" in the description.
  • Import listings with the 1-click lister so titles, item specifics, and variations copy correctly without manual typos.
  • Turn on the price and stock monitor for every Etsy-sourced listing. It re-checks the source and updates your eBay price or ends the listing when the maker changes price, adds processing time, or goes on vacation.
  • Keep the Etsy order number and message thread for every eBay order so an INR or return case can be resolved with the maker quickly.
  • Cap Etsy-sourced listings at a share of your store you can manage manually, and build the rest on wholesale suppliers that eBay explicitly allows.

Etsy dropshipping checklist

  • Confirm your model: designed-by-you POD on Etsy, or sourcing from Etsy to eBay.
  • On Etsy: production partner added and selected on every listing, original designs, AI disclosure where applicable.
  • Fees modeled at $0.20 + 6.5% + 3% + $0.25, plus 12 to 15 percent Offsite Ads on ad sales.
  • On eBay: handling time covers Etsy processing plus shipping, with the window stated in the listing.
  • Photos and text are your own or used with the maker's permission.
  • Licensed characters and brand names excluded from both models.
  • Price and stock monitoring on for every Etsy-sourced listing.
  • Both platforms' 1099-K reports reconciled in your bookkeeping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is dropshipping allowed on Etsy?
Classic dropshipping of mass-produced goods is not allowed. Etsy's Creativity Standards require every item to be made, designed, sourced (craft supplies), or handpicked (vintage) by you. The allowed version is designing your own product and having a disclosed production partner, such as a print on demand company, make and ship it.
What is Etsy's production partner rule?
If a third party helps make your physical product, you must add them as a production partner in Shop Manager and select that partner on every listing they produce. Failing to disclose a partner is treated as a policy violation and can lead to listing removal or shop suspension. Wholesalers and white-label manufacturers do not qualify as production partners.
How much does Etsy charge per sale in 2026?
As of September 2026, US sellers pay a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5 percent transaction fee on item price plus shipping, and 3 percent plus $0.25 payment processing. Offsite Ads add 15 percent (12 percent for shops over $10,000 in trailing sales, where it is mandatory) on sales that come from an ad click. Check etsy.com/legal/fees for current rates.
Can I dropship from Etsy to eBay?
You can list Etsy items on eBay and buy from the maker when they sell, but eBay's Dropshipping Policy states that fulfilling from another retailer or marketplace is not allowed, so it is a grey zone with suspension risk. Sellers who do it keep handling times honest, use their own photos, and monitor the Etsy listing for price and availability changes.
Is Etsy print on demand profitable?
It can be at $30 and up per item. A $28 shirt with a $19 base cost nets roughly $9 to $11 after Etsy fees, or about $5 if the sale came through an Offsite Ad. Profit depends on original designs that justify a premium price and bundling to raise average order value.
